First Time at Francis Street First

Welcome to Francis Street First!

We will be happy to see you on Sunday morning and to get to know you better in our small groups designed for various ages and interests. Bring your children. Our congregation is committed to teaching all children to follow the Golden Rule: Do No Harm, Do Good, and Stay in Love with God.

Attire at both services usually ranges from jeans to dresses and coats and ties. We invite you to dress comfortably.
And don’t worry – you’re not going to get called out in the worship service and asked to tell us your life story – we want you to feel welcome, but we don’t want you to feel like you’re “on display” either.

Coffee and light refreshments are available all morning in Kemper Hall, which adjoins the sanctuary. This provides a central gathering place and a chance to visit. Sunday School for all ages is from 9:30 until 10:30 am.  Ask for directions to a class of your choice. Adult classes: Serendipity, Room 7. Children and Youth.

We celebrate the Sacrament of Holy Communion, sometimes called the Lord’s Supper or the Eucharist/Mass in other denominations, on the first Sunday of each month, as well as Holy Thursday before Easter and Christmas Eve. Believing that Christ died for all, the Lord’s Table in the United Methodist Church is open to all, regardless of religious affiliation.

Traditionally, we receive communion in the form of a wafer and an individual cup of grape juice while kneeling at the altar rail, although other forms, such as dipping the wafer into a common cup before consuming, are also used. Special arrangements are made for anyone physically unable to come forward to receive communion.
